Oprah Gail Winfrey , popularly known as Oprah Winfrey was raised by her maternal grandmother, reason being the fact that she was born before her parents got married as such she was an illegitimate child. Not only this, her parents Vernon Winfrey and Vernita Lee, separated soon after Oprah came into this world. All the education and learning that Oprah has till date is to be credited to her grandmother who was not educated enough but taught Oprah whatever she could through the bible stories.
Oprah has had enough of bitter experience in her life. All ranging from child abuse to beating, but still she could manage to grow up into a gem of the persons all thanks to he Grandmother’s teachings and her willingness to learn. Soon she decided to work for the society and subsequently she contributed a lot to the society. She even received an award from the Chicago Academy for the Arts for her unique contributions to the city's artistic community. Oprah even received the title of Woman of Achievement by the National Organization of Women In 1986. The Oprah Winfrey Show won several Emmys for Best Talk Show, and Winfrey was honored as Best Talk Show Host.
There are a number of other awards as well that have enhanced the profile of the female Some of them include “Horatio Alger Award”, this particular award is given those personalities who have the tendency to strive towards their goal despite all the difficulties and challenges. Apart from this Oprah is also lucky enough to be included in the Television Hall of Fame in 1994. She is also proud to be the part of America's 25 Most Influential People of 1996 by Time magazine, also for forming a part of the Marjabelle Young Stewart's 1996 list of most polite celebrities. What else in 1997 Oprah was also tagged as the favorite female Television Performer at the People's Choice Awards.
