Childhood:
Nicole Kidman was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on June 20, 1967. She moved to U.S with her father, a biochemist to pursue his research on breast cancer. When Nicole was 4 years old, her family moved to Australia, where she and her younger sister Antonia were raised under strict rules. Anthony and Janelle Kidman were extremely politically active. The Kidman girls were required to discuss a political issue or current affair with their parents at the end of every day. Nicole's first love was ballet, but she ultimately took up mime and drama as well (her first stage role was a bleating sheep in an elementary school Christmas pageant).
Career:
Nicole started her professional career at the age of 16, casting a role in the Australian holiday favorite Bush Christmas in1983. That appearance touched off a spell of film and TV offers, including a lead in BMX Bandits (1983) and from there a schoolgirl turned into the protester in the miniseries "Vietnam" in 1987. She received her first award as Australian Film Institute Award. Nicole was established as a full fledged star in Australia and later on she made her entry into Hollywood. She started her Hollywood career with the thriller, Dead Calm. Nicole’s next film was a turning point for her professional as well as personal career. She was starred in the racecar flick Days of Thunder, and met her co-star Tom cruise, who was really impressed by her performance.
After that she landed up in many American films as Billy Bathgate in 1991, Far and Away in 1992, My Life and Malice in 1993. But with these entire endeavors she did not receive good box-office report. But in year 1995, Nicole finally received big applause for her performance in Gus Van Sant’s film To Die For. She was awarded Best Actress award for this movie at the Golden Globes award ceremony.
Then the pretty actress was flooded with the role. She did the sexy summer blockbuster Batman forever in 1995, The Portrait of a Lady in 1996, The Peacemaker in 1997, and Eyes Wide Shut in 1999 with Tom Cruise.
She also appeared in many films in the year 2001, 2002, but the one which really makes her noticeable was The Hours in 2002, where she played the portrayal of Virginia Woolf. This particular act fetches her The Oscar and The Golden Globe Awards for best actress.
Personality:
Nicole Kidman was married to Tom Cruise in the year 1990. The marriage last for almost 10 years and Kidman proved herself capable of juggling a very public marriage, a very private home-life (the couple have two adopted children), and a busy, high-caliber career in an unforgiving business. The couples were described as a Hollywood’s most famous super-couple and with that context Kidman is a bona-fide super-woman.

She takes each performance seriously; she even learned to write with her right hand for her role in The Hours and spent time with battered women in preparation for The Human Stain (2003). She also puts her intelligence and interest in politics to good use as a crusader against child abuse.
