Childhood
Lindsay Morgan Lohan was born in New York City, New York, on 2nd July 1986.
She was the first child born to parents Dinah Lohan (former actress and dancer) and Michael Lohan (former actor and businessman). Two brothers and one sister followed Lindsay's birth: Michael, born 1988, Aliana, born 1994, and Dakota, born 1996. Her family continued to live in New York where Lindsay attended Laurel Springs School.
Her mother is Dina Lohan, a former Radio City "Rockette" and Wall Street Analyst. Her father is Michael Lohan, a long-time Wall Street trader who developed his family's multi-million-dollar pasta business, then sold it to pursue funding and development of major studios and independent Hollywood projects.
For a short time, she attended a public high school, Sanford H. Calhoun High School, in a suburban town called Merrick on Long Island.
A 'straight A' student at school, she excelled at math and science. She also enjoys gymnastics, swimming, ice skating, roller blading, singing, biking, reading, writing and playing with her siblings.
Lindsay is of Italian and Irish descent and her mother Dina Lohan is also her manager.
Lindsay Lohan began her career as a model for the Ford Academy at the age of three and has appeared in more than sixty television commercials. As a child actress, she was a regular on soap operas such as The Guiding Light and As The World Turns.
Lindsay took voice lessons as a girl and at 17; she was 2003's 5th hottest teen female star.
Career
Lohan made her acting debut in 1996 as the third actress for Ali Fowler in the television drama "Another World". Her first role in a major motion picture was to be in the re-make of the movie Parent Trap (1998). Lindsay actually had two characters in the movie, a dual role of twins which showed off her skill and talent.
Parent trap was a modest commercial success, earning her widespread critical acclaim, and a Young Artist award for Best Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film, as well as Blockbuster Entertainment and Young Star award nominations.
She subsequently starred in the Disney TV film Life-Size (2000). The movie gave Lindsay the chance to work with Tyra Banks.
She also played Bette Midler's daughter in the first episode of the short-lived series Bette before bowing out when the production moved from her native New York to Los Angeles.
In 2002 Disney again announced that Lindsay was to play Anna Coleman in the re-make of the movie Freaky Friday. Starring beside Jamie Lee Curtis, the new Freaky Friday proved to be a huge success. Lindsay had pulled her character off brilliantly in the movie and critics were delighted by Lindsay’s amazing performance.
As if movies weren't enough, ambitious Lindsay added music to her resume. In September 2002, Estefan Enterprises announced a five-album deal with Lindsay, making her popular in the pop music circuit.
Lohan also won the 2004 MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Female, as well as a Saturn award nomination and another Young Artist award nomination.
Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen found Lindsay in the leading role. The movie, filmed in Canada and New York, was released in February of 2003. Met with mixed reviews and modest box-office receipts, the film didn't prove to be a huge hit.
Another movie to her credit, Mean Girls, opened to glowing reviews and Lohan finally proved she could carry a winner.
