Celine Dion is a French-Canadian singer born on March 30, 1968 in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada, in a large family of music savvy members. Celine was the youngest of 14 kids in the family. She did not speak English until 1987 when she learned in order to sing bilingually. Dion’s father was a retired piano bar owner. He played accordion and Celine’s mom played the violin. The entire family performed and entertained the local population on weekends. Dion started singing from the tender age of 5, with her siblings and quickly attained the expertise to perform live. Céline composed a French song at the mere age of twelve together with her mother and one of her brothers, which changed the course of her life. The tape containing the song came into the knowledge of René Angélil, a well respected personal manager. In January 1981, René was so impressed by Céline’s voice that he became determined to make her an internationally known talent - he even mortgaged his house to finance the recording of Céline's debut album!
Concentrating on her music career, she could not finish high school and live a usual teenage life. But she was able to buy her folks a lakefront home outside of Montreal at the age of only 18.
Some of her music albums are “Because you loved me”, “The color of my love”, and “Falling into you” which got record breaking success. “Because you loved me (1998)”, topped the chart with more than 55 million copies sold by 1998 along with 12 million and 25 million copies of “The color of my love” and “Falling into you” respectively.
When Celine was just 12, she rendered her career to Rene Angelil, 26 years older than her, to be shaped up. Rene gladly became the godfather of Dion and started managing everything right from her choosing her songs, cloths to scheduling her work. To Rene’s tremendous commitment, he even mortgaged his house to finance her journey to the top. Keeping his promises Angelil made Dion a star by the time she was 18.
They got involved romantically when celine was 20, and married in 1994. Now Dion had everything except a child which she liked so much that she adopted most of her siblings and gave her parents a chalet and bestowed $100,000 on her brothers and sisters, never forgetting where she came from. She was already blessed with a devoted husband, elegant homes and a sensational career. She hates smoking and drinking.
She received the Insignia of an Officer in the Order of Canada, given to those who exemplify "the highest qualities of citizenship," on 5/1/1998--another achievement among many.
Before taking a hiatus, Dion presented a closing concert for CBS on 11/24/1999 "to start a little family with Rene." After a much-publicized pregnancy, Dion gave birth to a son, Rene Charles, on January 25, 2001.
In June 1998 Dion swept both categories she was nominated for in the VH1 Viewers Vote Awards. She now holds the title of 'Diva of the Year' and 'Best Female Artist'.
Celine Dion is continuously growing with her amazing performances and commendable style of singing.
