Ash was born in a south Indian village, Mangalore on 1st Nov 1973. Her father worked as a merchant navy officer. She was the youngest child of the Rai family of the two siblings and her brother is 3 years elder to her. At the age of four her family had to move Mumbai Permanently. Aishwarya began her schooling at Arya Vidya Mandir, Santacruz at Mumbai. She was class leader at her school days, and this was due to her strong knowledge and education. She chooses “Zoology” after schooling in DG Ruparel College. Then she studied Architecture and passed the interview at Raheja College with flying colors. She was interested to be a doctor but instead of that she accepted the glamour world as it came to her.
Ash began her modeling in college times. Her successes in ramps take her a break from architecture and concentrating on modeling. She was wonderfully successful in modeling. Soon she was signed for many ads. The Garden Sari and Pepsi ad brought her to limelight. The year 1994 made her famous world wide—she crowned Miss Femina 94 runner up and that ended with wining the Miss World title.
Soon after wining Miss World title she began her Bollywood career. She got a huge success in Bollywood in very short-span of time. Aishwarya bagged Filmfare Award for her performance in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) as Ajay Devgan's wife who is in love with another man in best actress category. She also won rave reviews for her performance as a rape victim in Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai (2000). Again the year 2003 bestowed her Filmfare award for best actress in the film Devdas, her role as Paro was rally appreciable in that film.
The film Hum dil De Chuke Sanam, brought a turn in her personal life. Media publicized her having affair with the film’s costar Salman Khan and the gossip was continued for two years. But, may for reason of some recklessness of the rock boy, Salman Khan, Ash declared not to make any film with him at a press conference in the year 2003. Now she is gossiped to have love with Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi. Vivek has also announced to marry her in a press conference. She suffered an accident on the sets of Khakee (2003). She broke a bone in one foot and suffered severe cuts.
