On January 3, 1956, he was born as Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson in Peekskill, New York, USA as the sixth of eleven children to parents Hutton Gibson (a railroad brakeman) and Ann Gibson. After his high school, Gibson continued his studies at University of New South Wales in Sydney. Alongside future films thespians Judy Davis and Geoffrey Rush, he was a great performer at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts. After getting through with his college, he starred on a few TV shows and even had few turns on stage.
As an effect, he was selected to star in Mad Max (1979). That same year, in order to give a good start to his career, he played a role of a retarded handyman in love with Piper Laurie in Tim. With the coming of Lethal Weapon in 1987, the film shoved Gibson to embrace superstardom. In addition to it he generated two sequels, in which he has given a portrayal of modern action hero. In Lethal Weapon (1987), he played Martin Riggs and that eventually became his signature series. He also gathered critical praise with his starring role in Hamlet (1990/I). Forever Young (1992), an appealing production and also The Man Without a Face (1993), a disturbing production are both produced by Gibson.
For his role as Sir William Wallace in Braveheart (1995), he won two Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director. This very achievement labeled year 1995, as Gibson's Year.
