On today's music scene, Good Charlotte is a fresh breed of tuneful pop punksters which embrace an impulsive young quintet. Group is been named after a well-known children's book written by Carol Beach York. This most popular band among adolescents originated in1996. This happened as the Brothers, Joel Madden and Benji Madden got so psychic by the show- the Beastie Boys' Ill Communication Tour that only two weeks later along with their high school buddy Paul Thomas, they labeled their group Good Charlotte.
Good Charlotte is fronted by identical twin brothers, Joel Madden (Lead Vocals); Benji Madden (Guitar) who recruited their high school friends Paul Thomas (Bass); and Aaron Escolopio (Drums).
Then they added Billy Martin, a guitarist to the band and Escolopio was replaced first by Dusty, and then Chris Wilson, who is the band's current drummer. In 1998, to dig up in the flourishing music scene, Good Charlotte moved to Annapolis, Maryland. The band faced really the tough times as in order to pay the rent, the band even worked low paying jobs; they played in bars, clubs and parties.
"We want kids to come to our shows and forget about everything. Whatever their problems are, we want them to be focused on the energy, have a good time, and then go back to their normal life tomorrow."
Good Charlotte, The Album, is a compilation of volatile modern-rock gems with profoundly individual and often incredibly amusing lyrics. There are powerfully crafted declarations like the kick-ass "Motivation Proclamation" and songs with haunted, autobiographical overtones, like "The Little Things."
Their final decision to give meaning to their life is made after this concert only. To lay a foundation for themselves, they need a period of time. After a short while, they get a hold over pool of secured performances around the area. The band established further promotion by securing opening acts for more high profile bands like Blink 182, Lit, Eve 6, and Bad Religion. Eventually they signed a contract with Epic Records.
Their self-titled album was released in the year 2000. Though the album sold satisfactorily but it didn't mark the band to stardom. In "Undergrads", MTV's animated series, one song from the album, "The Click" was featured as the theme song. After its release, the band set on the voyage to refine their sound and vision. A dedicated fan base was established due to the band's influential energy and straight-up openness. After this they started making efforts for their second studio release.
With the release of "The Young and the Hopeless" in October 2002, they occupied the cover pages of Rolling Stone Magazine and Alternative Press. The album's success was determined by four hit singles - "The Anthem", "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", "Boys and Girls", and "Hold On". Their third studio album titled "The Chronicles of Life and Death" was released in October 2004. The album received critical acclaim by Alternative Press who stated that, "the band is growing by remarkable leaps and bounds, offering an increasingly multifaceted musical palette that evinces Joel and Benji Madden's mounting songwriting muscle….."
